First, the basics:
What is myGoals.com?
myGoals.com is the Web's leading destination devoted to helping you identify and accomplish anything you set out to do. Whether your goals are personal or professional, short-term or long-term, lofty or simple, we can help. It's what we do.

What is a GoalPlan?
A Goalplan is a comprehensive, structured list of the critical path obstacles that must be overcome and the tasks that must be accomplished in order to attain a goal. Importantly, Goalplans are not static; they are flexible and designed for you to modify as circumstances arise, even daily if necessary.
"Pre-made" Goalplans are templates that have been created by the myGoals.com editorial team or by subject-matter experts. Pre-made Goalplans relate to specific, popular goals and help you get started by suggesting common obstacles, tasks, and due dates, all of which you are free to change to suit your unique situation. You can browse through our directory of goal categories to find and adopt as many pre-made Goalplans as you'd like. Tasks within pre-made Goalplans often contain helpful tips or instructions, as well as links to additional resources and solutions.

What is an obstacle?
Obstacles are events, people, circumstances, etc., that could impact your ability to attain your goal. Therefore, identifying obstacles is the key to designing a good Goalplan. When you create a Goalplan using the Goal-Setting Wizard, we ask you to list the potential obstacles that stand between you and your goal. By listing them, you can then create a thorough list of the tasks required to overcome the obstacles and accomplish your goal.
You can change, add, or remove obstacles as often as you need to.

What is a task?
Tasks are like small goals in themselves. When you create a Goalplan using the Goal-Setting Wizard, we ask you to list the tasks required to remove each obstacle, whether the task is a one-time or on-going task, and when you're going to start and complete it. Then, you tell us how often and by what means you'd like to be reminded about each task. We use this information to provide you with your task list that is shown on your home page as well as in your reminders.
You can change, add, or remove tasks as often as you need to.
The completion of some tasks mark a significant point in goal attainment. We call these tasks milestones and encourage you to mark them as such.

What is a reminder?
Think of a reminder as a gentle tap on the shoulder that you request from us to help you stay on track. When you add a task to your Goalplan, we ask you what type of reminder (e.g., email) you'd like to recieve and how often you want to receive it: one time, daily, weekly, monthly, a specified number of days prior to the task's due date, or even at random.
You'll receive, at most, one reminder email per Goalplan that contains all of the tasks that are due within the next seven (7) days. You can then check off the tasks you've completed to update your task list.

What are milestones?
The completion of some tasks mark a significant point in goal attainment. We call these tasks milestones and encourage you to mark them as such.
Milestones appear as a different color on your task lists and email reminders. They are denoted with the following icon on the related Goalplan:
